Last Meeting of the '97 Kickapoo

It started back in the fall of 1997, when a group of Lake Bluff dads, several of whom already had older daughters in a Fox Nation tribe, decided to band together and form the Kickapoo. Over the ensuing years this group of girls and dads participated in countless tribal meetings, Fox Nation outings, and of course, Camp Anokijig. The Kickapoo tribe remained together through 8th grade.

With these newly minted Lake Forest High School graduates soon to go off to college and new lives, the Kickapoo dads and daughters decided to get together in early June at Lake Bluff beach for one last “tribal meeting”. Much like the very first gathering, pizza and pop were on the menu. The Scouting Report now consisted of passing the Talking Stick (yes, one of our dads actually dug it out of a closet and brought it along!) and sharing with everyone their individual college choices and anticipated major.

While the girls will soon go their separate ways, their last 18 years have been linked by the bonds formed in the LB Union Church basement oh so many years ago, toiling over arts and crafts, eating marginally healthy food, and spending time together. (It remains debatable who had more fun, daughters or dads?) For one last time, both the girls and their fathers made a memory to add to those that will likely last a lifetime.

How How, indeed!
